About Me

I had a stalker once. He read my stories in a local newspaper and left rhapsodic notes on my windshield. In neat type, he likened me to H. L. Mencken. It was the sweetest thing. I saved the notes for (a) inspiration and (b) leads to my could-be killer.

A decade later, I’m still telling stories (and, incidentally, still ticking). I’m no Mencken, but sometimes I manage to make people think, laugh, or cry. I like to see the world from different vantage points. I’ve soared over desert in a hot-air balloon and strode the halls of Congress in pursuit of the story. I’ve interviewed CEOs and pop stars and men behind bars. It astounds me that I’m paid to indulge my wanderlust, ask loads of questions, and write.

I’ve lived on three continents and in more than a dozen cities. These days I’m based in Pittsburgh, PA, in part because the city’s international airport is as charming as they come. (Check out the Calder in the airside terminal if you’re passing through.) Click here to see where I am when I’m not in the Burgh.

If you have a story that needs telling, I’d love to hear from you. Send me a message or, you know, leave a note on my car.

I also teach yoga!
